Spruce up your home with the ‘magic’ of a carpet

We’re not talking about Aladdin’s magic carpet that takes you to places, but carpets do really make some interior magic in any home. Carpets set visual boundaries, solidify the theme of your home, and are even functional in keeping a portion of the house tidy. Here are some ideas on how you can incorporate carpets in your abode.

1. Use it as a visual boundary

When you have an open space home lay-out, it could be hard to decorate. But with a carpet, you can segregate a nook, or highlight a furniture piece, just like how this printed carpet added glam to this wing chair and footrest.

2. As a ‘softening’ detail

This home has a glass and steel cabinet, a board partition, and a round mirror. Without the carpet, the decors look out of place. Thanks to the carpet, the modern “white” look was solidified.

3. Offers a pop of color

When you’re into minimalist decor but get bored at how plain white and gray could be, add a bright-colored carpet to liven up the space. And if you change your mind, you can always take the carpet out. Choose geometric patterns for that added visual beauty.

4. Highlight a theme

Want to go for bold, solid colors without making the room gloomy? Check out how the carpet added playfulness to this otherwise serious-looking lounge.

5. Makes a space look bigger

When used properly, a carpet may make a small space appear bigger. In this home, the furry carpet was in the same color scheme of the curtain, offering a complementing visual. The brown carpet also offered a contrast to the boring gray floor.

6. Shows a contrast

Wooden floors are nice but carpets make it look nicer. In this example, we see how the moss green carpet provided a “nature” feel to the overall look of the home, while setting a boundary for the living room.

7. Space filler when you have too much white space

When a room appears very empty, maybe due to huge windows or minimal furniture, let a carpet take space. No more boring rooms!

8. Beef up your dining space

Carpets are usually found in living rooms. But you can use one to spruce up your dining area! The Aztec-print black-and-white carpet as seen here was used for house the dining set. See how it added glam to the cabin-like abode?

9. Safe space for babies

Carpets provide a sensory feel to those tiny feet. It also helps cushion the impact of a likely fall when your children are still learning to walk. It also provides seating for toddlers who often choose the floor over chairs.

10. Use it to separate spaces

For small areas like condominiums, adding furniture to set space boundaries is not an option. Why not use carpets to separate the living area from the kitchen? As seen in this dreamy apartment, the carpet helped solidify the contrast between the two key areas.
