Adapting to the New Normal: How to build a space conducive for "Work From Home"
The place that was once your escape from work has now become your place of work. And in an attempt to find the perfect work-life balance, most people are finding a place of transition, one that is conducive for work and bereft of distractions in their own homes.
Here are some ideas to help you find that sweet work spot in your abode.
1. Set a Space: Bedroom not allowed!
First things first, you have to have a designated space to work. This will help you get in the mindset that when you are in that space, it means you have to work. If you can, find the most secluded place in your home where you can prop a desk and work without distractions. Find the well-lit and ventilated spot for a better work experience.
And no matter how cozy your bedroom is, it’s still meant to be a place for rest and relaxation; no stressful energy is allowed in there so you better choose another area to be your office space.
2. Make Sure You Like Your Space
Best thing about working from home? You get to set your space up however you want it! A couch instead of a chair? Who’s stopping you! Fairy lights strewn across your window like a teenage girl? Go! There’s no limit to how you can decorate your space but make sure it’s filled with things to keep you sane, calm, and in the mood to work.
One of the best ways to set the mood of a room is by picking the best lighting with Chandra Lamp Shades. We have all sorts of lighting fixtures to aid in keeping you focused and motivated throughout your work hours.
3. Say No to Clutter
Try to keep the place free of “home” things. If you have kids in the house, make it clear to them that they should stay in their areas whenever you’re in yours. Make sure your kids don’t leave their toys lying around near your workspace, make sure there isn’t any out of place laundry strewn across your line of vision-- just make sure it will give off the most “I’m working” vibe possible. If you and your family have issues with storage and don’t know what to do, you could always search up Deline wardrobes. They are now partnering with us at Chandra Interiors to create durable and quality living room cabinetry to store all those eye-sores but still have them within reach
4. Take Breaks
Just because you can work all the time with nothing blocking your way does not mean you should. Taking breaks is detrimental to your overall health. Taking a break actually increases productivity levels and improves the quality of your outputs. Remember to stand up and stretch every once in a while, take a walk around your house and bond with your children, and listen to some calming music before diving right back into your work.
5. Design it for function
If you can invest in a good quality office chair, or an ergonomic work table, your work from home experience will vastly improve. Working while you slouch can make you feel tired while working on the bed will only tempt you to sleep.
6. Organize your files
We mean not only your digital files! Try sorting all your papers and putting them in a nice basket that’s easy to access but easy to hide too. Check this out for inspiration:
7. Add greens
Studies show that the visuals of trees help people relax. Add a plant to your work area and see your mood improve. You may also try small potted plants to give your desk a makeover.
8. Spruce up the wall
For something more permanent, you may paint the chosen room to provide you that much-needed transition. Take a cue from this dreamy home office:
